Hi,
I use two programs to convert my video, the reason for this is I need two formats so both the Flash and HTML5 outputs play the video in all browsers.
HandBrake (Windows and Mac)
http://handbrake.fr
Miro Video Converter (Windows and Mac)
http://www.mirovideoconverter.com
Example:
MP4 for Flash and HTML5/Safari.
WebM for HTML5/Firefox and others.
I will start with a .mov video file, 1920 x 1080, AAC, H.264 which is 82.4MB
Open HandBrake and the video.
Choose preset “Android Mid” from “Devices”.
This is ok for pinning video to TV’s etc and outputs an mp4 file 480 x 272 H.264, AAC at 4.4MB. If you need better quality choose Android High or mess with the video settings.
Now I open Miro Video Converter and drag and drop in the mp4 file I just created.
Select “WebM (vp8)” from “Other Devices and Formats” and click Convert.
This generates a 2.9MB WebM file.
Adding Video:
The Preview image used in the Media Editor may be to lower resolution and will make it difficult to pin the video. To improve the quality go to Pano2VR’s Preferences/Settings and click on the images tab. Change the Preview size for your input projection type. My project is an Equirec and I changed it to 4,096 x 2,048. Click OK and close Pano2VR.
In your Project folder find the xxxx.preview.jpg, the default size is 1,067 x 837px. Delete this and open Pano2VR and save the project, this will create a new preview image now at 4,096 x 2,048. The Media Editor image will be much higher quality.
Open the media editor and drag and drop the mp4 file in first, this is required for Flash as it looks at the first video. Set the correct size of the video in this case 480 x 272 and continue to pin the video in the required position.
For best effect set Mode to Directional Rectangular loop 0 (continuous) and set the Field Size to FoV. Do this by selecting 0, then click the down button to get to FoV. This mode then fades in the sound when the video is in view. Change the Click Mode to Play/Stop.
Export HTML5 and open in Firefox, NO VIDEO. This is because we need to go back to the Media Editor and add the WebM video. Open the Media Editor and click on the pinned video. Now open the WebM video using Alliterative File. Click OK and republish and now will play in Firefox.
The Attached zip contains the videos and project files, open the p2vr project file, save it and click Create ALL.

Hopki

Hi Smooth,
Interesting, I use Windows 7 64 bit for testing.
I downloaded the project from the post and published out.
IE9 = Flash OK
Safari = HTML5 OK
Chrome = HTML5 OK
Opera = Flash OK
Firefox seems to be a bit of a problem, I get reports every now and then regarding inverted cubes and other odd behaviour with the HTML5 output. When questioned it's always Firefox, diving deeper when I speak to people bout it sometimes updating or going back a revision which the graphics driver sometimes fixes the problem. But as said in every case its Firefox.
In this test Firefox = HTML5 OK (but you can see a bit of wobble with the pinned image, but I would say still ok) tested with 14.0.1.
However I updated with 15.0.1 and I now get the upside down video 180 degree from the pinned video.
Can you or anyone else reproduce this?
Regards,
Hopki

Chrome wont let you open the HTML page locally because of security issues regarding xml files so you need to open it with Pano2VR's web server or upload it.

I'm going to test the same files on my Windows 7, 64 Bit computer and see if I notice any differences. Like you say it could be a graphics card driver issue.
That said, you can hardly know what our clients or casual panorama browsers are using nor can we expect them to upgrade drivers because a video or cube face is randomly upside down!
How long has this HTML5 been about now? All this time and it's still a pain in the rear and the goal posts are continually being moved.

All for what?
Regards, Smooth

Hi,
I'm trying to get this video thing working in both flash and html5. I managed to get it working in html5 but in flash
it was not showing.
After a long night figuring out why it dit work in the above example and not in my settings, I pinpointed it
to one little setting in de flash config. I had "local security" switched on, when I switch it of the video loads just fine.
Drawback is now that I cannot click on the next pano with this setting enabled (when showing the tour local on my pc), it does
work when online but I use my tours a lot offline ....
Is there a solution for this ?
regards,
Arjan

Thanks Hopki, this is a useful piece. Is there a way to trigger the alternative file, based on browser type. Not to run a Web M version as in your example, but for example to run a higher and lower res version, depending on whether the user is on a desktop or mobile device? Cheers…

Hi,
HTML5:
Talking with Thomas the media editor should do this already with the HTML5 output.
Example: If you have two mp4 videos, standard resolution and the other being Full HD, the iPad 2 will only play the standard resolution.
The browser will look down the list starting from the top and play the first video it can, so this said the order the videos should be the highest quality first then working down.
FLASH:
Flash will use the first Video no matter what so again it is important you have the mp4 video first.

Hopki

I have the same question here as in my another post.
I want to click a button which shows / hide me the LOCAL video - not Youtube URL like in the example here:
http://virtualpanorama.cz/suchdol/
Some of my clients have restricted acces to Youtube in their offices.
