Trying to clarify ways for offline HTML5 display, and pros-cons:

1)Manifest Caching
It caches the virtual tour temporarily in
ipad browser so:
it works fine But after a while and
upon cache clearing it will be not there
and needs to be downloaded again
Correct?

2)Integrated webserver
It works but only for single tours.
Hotspots pointing to either .swf or .xml
give http://127.0.0.1:8080
error: NETWORK_ERR: XMLHttpRequest Exception 101
Correct?

3)Simple
ziping-emailing to idevice-downloading-unziping
won't display the virtual tour localy on the iPad browser,
eventhough safari on windows would display it
Correct?

4) Opening the .html from 3) using good reader
will display a compleat virtual tour with links between panos fine on iPad. Correct?
(links to .swf or need to be to .xml?)(does not require .manifest file?)
what would an equivalent be for Android?

Sorry if questions are too many, but I hope this Topic will be clarifying and helpful to other people too.

As I dont have an ipad - android tablet,
anyone willing to test here
http://gardengnomesoftware.com/forum/vi ... f=5&t=7117
and feedback, much appreciated (ziped file for offline display)

thanks,
Minos

Re: 2)Integrated webserver
managed to properly make a virtual tour with panos linked with hotspots,
that would play locally and in a local network.
But once moved to a 3rd computer it wont play (and is not supposed to play. correct?)

HI,
The error you are getting indicates you are not opening the tour through Pano2VR and just opening the HTML page in the folder.
Some browsers will not allow local access to XML files so the HTML5 output that require these can not function. To my knowledge only Safari will allow HTML5 content to play directly.

Ok, going back to your first post:
1) The mobile safari cache memory is to flakey and is to easily over written for this to be 100%.
2) You need a copy of Pano2VR and open the HTML5 output using the web server, so again not really a good solution.
3) Correct.

There is a 4th option if you want the iPhone/iPad. GoodReader will allow you to transfer a zipped tour to the iDevice and then unzip it. You then open GoodReader and select the HTML page to view the tour. Link: http://www.goodiware.com/goodreader.html

There are two versions, one for iPad and one for iPhone. Some one did tell me it was being discontinued, but it still in the App Store.

Hopki

Great Hopki,
everything makes sense now.
Also to add that I tried this app on android 2.3
and it plays html5 virtual tours offline.

Hi,
For Android and to show normal panos, not VR. You don't need an App.
Use File Transfer for Android and a file management app, most of the free ones will work ok.
Output an HTML5 output as normal, rename the output folder and use the file transfer to transfer the files to your Android device.
You then use the file manager app to navigate to the folder and open the HTML page, job done. 8)
