Start Youtube Video not at the beginning, but at a special time/moment

Q&A about the latest versions

Hello,

I searched in the forum but did not find an answer. Sorry if I should have overseen something.

Youtube has the ability to share a link with a timestamp, like:
https://youtu.be/ujWHIlAg_VQ?t=79 - by opening the link, the Video will start at 1:19, not at the beginning.
But when I put that link into the hotspot's Link Target URL field, it looses that information and starts right from the beginning.

Can someone give me a hint, please? How can I start the YT video from a chosen second?

Thanks everybody! :)

Hi,

I was able to copy your link, add it to one of my skin objects and when I click on the object from within the tour it opens up the video at the 1:19 timeline.

What version of Pano2vr are you using? Not sure if that will make a difference but I am using the latest and it definitely works on my end.

Hey 1uv3,

thank you very much for your reply! :)

I reproduced what you described and yes, when I insert the link as an action on a skin object, it works like expected.

But when I insert the link as Link Target URL to open it with the ht_video_youtube pop-up it starts at the beginning. (It picks only the "ID" of the video but not the timestamp-part in the end of the link.)

Could you please be so kind and check, whether the new version behaves the same way?

(I'm still using version 6.0.6 to finish some projects)

Thank you very much!

Hi Sanny,

Yeah it does the same thing for me too, however, there is a workaround......but it gets pretty complex if you have to position the video in a tv screen or something because you have to use css and are not able to see the results of your css edits till after you have published the tour. To be honest, it's a real pain in the ass :D I did this a couple months back and it took me a good 2 to 3 hours to get the video positioned correctly into the tv screen.

I created a video showing you what to do.... I just woke up so my brain wasn't all there just yet....couldn't even remember the name of a semi colon for a few seconds and was saying "percent" instead of "degrees".....so don't hate on me too much :D

Good Luck!

Wow, thank you so much for your afford to make that tutorial for me!! I know CSS a bit, so I think I understood, what you wanted to tell me. :D

I'm gonna have a play with it tomorrow evening; I already noticed that placing a pinned video is ...lets call it "a work for nerds with lots of patience" - which is not exactly a description of my character...

Greets to your wife and have great day! (Here its evening right now).

Hey 1uv3,

couldnt wait till evening, had to give it a try right now. And it works fine! (I always love to learn about the possibilites of P2VR)
But in this case I definately need it to open within the youtube popup component. Tried it with polyhotspots that are connected to an element in the skin and different actions but it seems, that Pano2Vr simply cant handle that part in the end of the link which gives the information about the start second.

Hope Hopki (or others, please feel free :D ) will find his way into this post and present the ultimate solution for it. :D
Or push it to the developerteam as a feature request...?

But you said it was difficult to adjust the position of the iframe in the skin and maybe I can show you a little workaround, too. I uploaded a vid for you to our cloud: https://cloud.bashmedia.tv/index.php/s/x2HJw5Lgj2eaS9Y Hope it helps. :)

If you would like to store the tutorial, please download it as this video will be deleted on 08th of November. I dont have an youtube account, maybe you want to upload it to yours, so that other people can see it, too? And then post the link into the thread here, of course. ;)

You have just hit GOD LIKE STATUS in my book :D

That is SOOO much easier then the back and forth that I was doing  . Amazing and amazingly more simplified :D

Thanks so much for sharing that and I went ahead and added it to my channel so anyone can check out the video here:

Glad you were able to get the link working the way you wanted and glad that you shared your CSS solution :D

Thanks again Sanny!

Hi Guys,
Some good solutions, but there is a feature request to allow pinning of YouTube and other video providers.
Cheers,

Hey all,

thanks for your reply, Hopki, but my problem was not about pinning videos. :(

My problem is, that P2VR can not start a YT-video at a special time, which is defined in YouTube by a "tail" at the end of the YT-Link. The LINK TARGET URL field does not accept that "tail" and deletes it. Maybe this image is more understandable.

The only way to get the "start with second xy"-information going, is via iframe directly in the skin, as 1uv3 showed. But I want to open it with the youtube-popup-video-overlay-component and to start it at a previously defined second.

And 1uv3: So happy I was able to make your life a bit easier! :D And thank you for uploading it.

Hi Hopki.
In October 2019 there were request for allowing YouTube video to start (and optionally to end) from defined time position.

Your reply was hopeful, but nothing was changed even in last 6.1.5 release.
Is it really so hard to do?

Hi Hopki,

Does it look like the request will be fulfilled?

I just ran into this problem as well. I thought it would be ok for copying video at current time. I did it to about 20 polygons and they all started at zero seconds :(

Hope that it is in the works!

Thanks and have a great weekend!!

This feature was added in Pano2VR 7 beta1.
The copied URL also includes the time stamp so the video will start from the defined time.
