Hi, I've just published a new long form tutorial 'Polygon Hotspots & Information Popups'.

UPDATE 18/12: I've updated the tutorial to add in a method to avoid the issue with the tooltip remaining on the screen after clicking on the polygon hotspot. This way you can create and manage unique tooltips for the hotspots within the skin editor.

Using Point Hotspots to deliver contextual content is a great way to make your Virtual Reality tours more interactive and provide an enhanced experience for the viewer. However a point hotspot is as its name implies a ‘point’ in some projects you may want to highlight and identify particular objects by their shape.

This tutorial shows how to use a single skin component to show a polygon hotspot description in a information popup box when any of the polygon hotspots are clicked.

The tutorial comes with sample assets you can use to follow along.

Once again any feedback or comments are appreciated. There are many ways to accomplish the same thing in Pano2VR and I'm always happy to find a better way.

Tony

HI Hopki,

If you have a spare minute or two would you mind taking a look at the skin I came up with for this project. I'm using a rectangle with the Hotspot Proxy ID assigned to it and then offset it so it doesn't show up in the final output.

I was running into an issue when I clicked on the information box the text would disappear. I'm hoping you might have a more elegant solution?

cheers,

Tony

Hi Tony,
All seems fine to me.
I can open the popup and clicking the screen tint or close button closes it.
Clicking the text does not hide anything.
Tested on the Mac with Chrome, Firefox and Safari.
I would have used a container rather than a rectangle but it does not matter, just means you don't have to move it off screen.
Regards,
Hopki

Nice tutorial Tony... thank you!
I suppose Pano2VR could just simplify this by giving adding "info" to the type of hotspot, instead of just "node" and "url"?

One thing I've not quite got about the visibility of polygon hotspots, especially if they're relatively small. Isn't it easy to just miss it if you can't see it? In your example I only knew about the two because you specifically mentioned tail and engine, but if I didn't know about it, it would be easy to miss in all the dragging around.

Oh, and one last thing, could you please show me how you put in the text. I assume 3d editing in PS? How do you get the worktable window size so big to put in the text sentence in one go? I hope I've explained the question properly.
