Hi out there,
is there a workaround for the incorrect presentation of panoramas in Street View? In several elder tours vertical black lines or completely distorted panoramas appeared. I talked to a Street View Moderator and she told me, that it is about the metadata. There is a sheet wich describes what metadata is needed for street view:
https://developers.google.com/streetvie ... data?hl=de
https://developers.google.com/streetvie ... data?hl=en

I checked that in a faulty pano, but the needed fields ar all present. Here is one of the faulty tours:
https://goo.gl/maps/Xqc47pGgoiP2

I think, it is a known problem and many Street View Photographers face these problems:

<GPano:CroppedAreaLeftPixels>0</GPano:CroppedAreaLeftPixels>
<GPano:CroppedAreaTopPixels>0</GPano:CroppedAreaTopPixels>
<GPano:CroppedAreaImageWidthPixels>8400</GPano:CroppedAreaImageWidthPixels>
<GPano:CroppedAreaImageHeightPixels>4200</GPano:CroppedAreaImageHeightPixels>
<GPano:FullPanoWidthPixels>8400</GPano:FullPanoWidthPixels>
<GPano:FullPanoHeightPixels>4200</GPano:FullPanoHeightPixels>
<GPano:InitialViewHeadingDegrees>0</GPano:InitialViewHeadingDegrees>
<GPano:InitialViewPitchDegrees>0</GPano:InitialViewPitchDegrees>
<GPano:InitialViewRollDegrees>0</GPano:InitialViewRollDegrees>
<GPano:PoseHeadingDegrees>0.000000</GPano:PoseHeadingDegrees>
<GPano:PosePitchDegrees>0.000000</GPano:PosePitchDegrees>
<GPano:PoseRollDegrees>0.000000</GPano:PoseRollDegrees>
<GPano:ProjectionType>equirectangular</GPano:ProjectionType>
<GPano:UsePanoramaViewer>True</GPano:UsePanoramaViewer>

any idea or workaround?

Thanks and regards, Chris

Hi Chris,
Pano2VR injects everting it should.
Can I ask do you see this with a project you have uploaded with Pano2VR.
If so what is the exact size of your image?

The reason I ask is if you used Photoshop to edit the size of the equirectangular image it is know it can reduce one of the sizes, normally width by 1px.
If this is the case then this will cause a black line

All panorama images must be exactly 2:1, example 12000 x 6000px.

What you may be able to do is login to your account and download one of the effected panoramas and then have a look at its size.
Maybe in a photo editor fix the size, then upload to your account.
The only down side is replace panoramas zeros the view count.

Hopki

Hi Hopki,
I answered your message but can't find it anymore, what a mess.. :-/ So again: the error is not because of image dimensions. The panos are there since some time and worked excellent before. The error is because of a change in Googles interpretation of the imagery. So the Street View Moderator i contacted, gave me the advice to control the metadata, what I did - everything seems to be fine. Downloading to Pano2VR and uploading again doesn't help.
I am not alone with this distortion error, it has to be a known problem. Several colleagues told me about the same problem as you can see in here:
https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/D ... 200/page/2
Any idea?

Thanks and regards, Chris

Hi Chris,
It could be other meta data that is causing the problem.

If its Meta data in the image then apart from Google should fix this, the only other way would mean deleting the image from Google and replacing.
Unfortunately this will zero your view count which is not good.

If your ok with the view count starting back at zero then try this:

Download load the image/tour to Pano2VR and save to a project folder for the image/tour.
Make sure you see the map pins in the tour map and it functions as should with the links if you have downloaded a tour.
Copy the project file as a backup.

Now "convert" the image/s to PNG format.
We do not set/save any meta data in a PNG so it will strip out any unwanted code.
When you're ready to upload make sure you delate your old image/tour from street view first, then click upload project.
Pano2VR will remap to JPG adding its required meta data.

Now check the images are they ok?
Please let me know how you get on.

Also can you send us one of your panos that are broke in street view?
Please send to support@ggnome.com with a link to this post.

Hi Hopki,

I followed the steps, the result is unchanged:
- copied the tour with the google tour browser
- changed the file extension with Pano2VR to PNG
- deleted the tour online
- uploaded the tour again to the place
(Pano2VR told me: Panos will be uploaded, not existing in Google Street View)

It seems to be like nothing has changed, the date is still 2016.

I will send you a link to the downloaded and the processed tour to support@ggnome.com. A workaround that keeps the view count would be the best of course.

Thanks and regards, Chris

For anyone following.

The Panoramas were 8200 x 4100px, changing them to 8000 x 4000 got rid of a black line in the panorama.
So Google is sensitive to image size.
I could never reproduce with my own images as I always upload 12000 x 6000px.
