The Chrome Browser from version 66. doesn't play my MP3-Audio file.

At first I thought it was Chrome. But then I found the following test page:

https://hpr.dogphilosophy.net/test/

On this page you can test which audio file formats work. The MP3 audio file works fine. I downloaded the MP3 file and published it with Pano2VR. Unfortunately, no success. Does Pano2VR have a bug?

Hi Stefan,
It is Chrome, they changed the way they support sound, in this test: http://hopkimedia.co.uk/sound/
Rotate to the village sign and click the white rectangle top left, the sound will play.
This is the same as Safari.

Hopki

Hello, Hopki,

thank you for your feedback.

Yeah, it was just Chrome. Today came an update and everything works.

Version 66.0.3359.181

It would be great if Chrome would soon allow automatic playback again.

Greetings from Berlin,
Stefan

Hi Hopki,

I'm having trouble getting this to work in Chrome on my desktop, any chance of getting the project files for your 'sound' example?

cheers,

Tony

Hi Tony,
Use this link: http://hopkimedia.co.uk/chrome_test
For me this now auto plays in Chrome, Firefox and Safari.
For Chrome, I had to do the learning thing.
Visit the web page and click to play the media, you have to be on the page more than 7 seconds to prove you wanted to hear the sound/see video.
Repeat the process a few times, I think mine was after a bout 8 - 10 times, now Chrome auto plays.
Regards,
Hopki

Thanks for these insights, Hopki. Am I right in thinking that Chrome learns your preferences; in this case it learns that you accept this media on that site. So whilst a piece of media autoplays for you, it might not autoplay for me?

Hi Hopki,

When I go to that url http://hopkimedia.co.uk/chrome_test/ I see a pinned black square and a play button. Clicking on the play button does nothing.

Update: I just checked the Chrome preferences and there was an update to Version 66.0.3359.181 (Official Build) (64-bit) available so I've updated and that seem to fix the problem of the play button not working.

Unfortunately yes as its down to individuals experiences.

I take it my test page does not auto play, but as said visit a few times, each tome longer than 7 seconds, so say 10.
Hit refresh and at some point it will start to auto play.

It also looks like when a website has been "learnt" Chrome will play any media on that site, here is another test http://hopkimedia.co.uk/iss/iss.html
This woks in Chrome for me the first time I opened it.

Hopki

So the really cool interactive tour I created now has no audio on Android Chrome. It's never autoplayed, so these changes shouldn't affect it. Your example doesn't work either Hopki.

<rant>So frustrating, I really hate web dev, no real standards that all browsers fully support, compounded by routine changes to standards on a whim. Just ridiculous... </rant>

edit: Google has updated the Android Chrome browser so everything working (for now)....
