Hi Forum,
Just recently I updated my iPhone (6+) to the new iOS version 10.0.2.
Now I am seeing some filickering / jitter when moving the FoV in our tours (I am talking about the HTML version). I believe that in previous version(s) our Tours were displayed smooth, at least I never noticed this and I am pretty sure I would have noticed it, if it was there
I first thought this may be caused by a skin element we are using, but the Garden Gnome examples (e.g. the Layer Marney tower) are also flickering.
Is anybody having / seeing the same issue? Anybody any clue what to do to eliminate this?
Cheers,
Matthias
flickering / jitter on iPhone 6+ (iOS 10.0.2)
Hi Matthias,
Yes I'm seeing the same issue. If you pan with your finger or move the panorama with the Gyro there is a constant flashing as it seems to load different parts of the image. I'm using multiresolution files so I don't know if that's the issue or not. Like you I'm viewing HTML files.
I'm using files generated out of V4.5.3 so I don't know if there is a difference in the .js code from V5?
There are also some issues in regard to the resizing of panoramas in iFrames when you rotate from Portrait to Landscape and back again. In portrait the menu is centred, after rotating the phone to landscape and back to portrait the menu is now disappearing off the right hand side of the iFrame. If you look at this page on an iPhone you will see the issue http://tonyredhead.com/venice-athens-cr ... ding-wharf

Hi,
Just did some checking on an older iPad, as well as the iPhone, running 9.3.5 and none of the issues I'm seeing on 10.0.1 are occurring. Panning is smooth and flicker free, rotation restores the panorama perfectly.

Okay, I've tried it with both V4.5.3 and V5 code. Playing the pano from a direct URL http://tonyredhead.photography/360/soci ... index.html is fine no flickering issues at all. However when I view it from within an iFrame http://tonyredhead.com/venice-athens-cr ... ding-wharf that's where the issues are appearing, for both versions of the code.
On the iFrame version I have a fullscreen button that launches a new window, and in this page there are no issues. So I'd have to think it's something to do with playing it within an iFrame.

Hi,
New test, I just created a version using the same original file in KRPano 1.19-pr5 and embedded it in the webpage using the same code as the previous ones. On the iPhone 10.0.1 and iPad 10.0.1 and I'm think I'm seeing the same thing with the flickering and definitely the same issue with the rotation and offset menu. Can someone take a look? http://tonyredhead.com/krpano-iframe-test
cheers,
Tony

Hi GuysOn the iFrame version I have a fullscreen button that launches a new window, and in this page there are no issues. So I'd have to think it's something to do with playing it within an iFrame.
Here it is the other way around displaying nicely within an i Frame
the **pano flickers when loading, when fully loaded it is All Right
But Tonys website crashes here with only 1 application open on i Pad 4 1G ram
EDIT:
i think we should leave the new tap, window business and open all links as the Webb standard in the same window.
Hi Svendus,
Can anyone else test to see if it crashes?
cheers,
Tony
Hmm, I'm testing it on an iPad 3 with 1G of ram and no crashing here. If you wouldn't mind telling me what page are you on and what actions are you doing when it crashes.Svendus wrote:But Tonys website crashes here with only 1 application open on i Pad 4 1G ram.

Hi Tony,
Hi Svendus,
thanks for your replies and confirming the issue. This is much appreciated!
I also did another round of testing and these are my observations (iPhone 6+ with iOS 10.02):
1) http://tonyredhead.com/venice-athens-cr ... ding-wharf
= Pano2VR 5.0.2/15080, iFrame
=> flickers on Chrome and Safari
2) http://tonyredhead.photography/360/soci ... index.html
= Pano2VR 5.0.2/15080, no iFrame
=> does NOT flicker
3) http://tonyredhead.com/krpano-iframe-test
= krPano
=> NO flickering
It does not make any difference whether I wait until the Pano is fully loaded or not.
The Pano for which I experienced the flickering for the first time does not run in an iframe. So I re-checked the non-iFrame Panos... But most importantly, the Gnome Example does also not run in an iframe!
4) https://ggnome.com/samples/pano2vr_5/tower/
= Pano2VR 5.0.1/15068, no iFrame
=> flickering !
So I believe we are close, but not quite there yet!
I searched for a Pano with an older version of P2VR and found this one on Tony's site:
5) https://tonyredhead.photography/360/social/MD-Station/
= Pano2VR pro 4.5.3/10717, no iFrame
=> a bit flickering, but much less than in the Panos above
6) http://tonyredhead.com/blog/mildura-station-lights
= Pano2VR pro 4.5.3/10717, iFrame
=> a bit flickering, but much less than in the Panos above
It seems to me that flickering comes as a combination of the new iOS with the new P2VR. Running in an iFrame seems to have a negative impact, but as 4) is flickering whereas 2) is not flickering, a specific setting in P2VR must also be a contributing factor...
Hmm... where do we go from here?

Hi,
FYI this is also being discussed on Facebook by KRpano users as well. https://www.facebook.com/groups/panoram ... 336412741/
It's definitely an Apple Software issue but I'm wondering if the smart boys at GGS can come up with a workaround

I don't completely agree, because all Panos I have tested which were created with version 4.5 of P2VR have no such flickering on iOS 10.0.x!tonyredhead wrote:

So I believe it's a combination of new iOS and new P2VR (or maybe just a setting in P2VR)...
To exclude any settings in P2VR, and as your Mildura Station Light runs smooth on iOS 10.0.x, could you create a version with P2VR 5.x with the very same settings as you used in your P2VR 4.5.3 project?
I think this would be very beneficial in identifying the root cause.
Cheers,
Matthias
Hi,
I've created a video showing exactly what I'm seeing on 10.0.1 (I've just updated to 10.0.2 and it's the same)
https://youtu.be/2HN0cVOLhuA
In the first section of the video I use a project exported from Pano2VR 4.5.3 and I load the project directly from my server, the second section I'm loading a page from my Squarespace website using an iFrame and in the final section I'm showing the auto resize issue with iFrames.
In the first section the playback isn't bad, there is a white flash at one point but overall pretty good. The second section is very bad, jittering, jumping etc and in the third section the auto resizing isn't happening at all.
Here's a preview image of the auto sizing issue from my iPad. The image on the left is original page after loading, the image on the right is after a 90˚ rotation and then back to portrait and zoomed out to see the whole iFrame.

Okay, I just downloaded the latest KRPano 1.19pr8 and using the same equirectangular used the droplet MAKE PANO (MULTIRES) to create an output. I've uploaded that to my server and it's working fine on the iPhone and iPad, no jittering, no auto resize issues.
Here are the links:

Hope we can find a Pano2VR solution as I don't want to have to learn KRPano if I can avoid it.

Be patient Tony 5.1 are coming in very near future
many apps like Google Maps Were even crashing in i OS 10.0.2
I think it is a Cold Case for the Pano2Vr Support and not a forum subject!
take it or leave it.
