None of this was happening when I was running Windows 7 (64 bit). I'm running Windows 10 (64-bit) and I have the latest driver installed for my video card (see below). I've even tried running it in Compatibility Mode for Windows 7 and running as Administrator.

I'm running:
Panoramic Image Converter
Version: 5.0.2 pro 64bit
Revision: 15080/5.5.1
Build date: Jul 5 2016, 12:59:46

A few examples of when I receive the error:
  • When I open a skin and select an object then under Properties > Image, I click "Change..." and the file dialog window appears to allow me to select the image file
  • If I right-click in the Tour Browser and choose "Add Panorama". The file dialog window appears to allow me to select a panorama image file but within a couple of seconds I receive the error BUT if I drag and drop the panorama image to the Tour Browser, it will add the panorama to the tour.
  • If I simply click the menu item at the top File > Open..., the file dialog window appears briefly and then Pano2VR closes.
  • If I click File > Save as..., the dialog window appears and then Pano2VR closes.
It seems to happen any time the file open/save dialog window opens.

I REALLY need Pano2VR to work!

Hi aambrose

Windows 10 has higher security settings
with external drives and network
see if the System has fully rights to work with the projeckt folders.

Do not have any projeckts stored in the root C: or any system folder.
It should be kept in Dokument and settings/username/Dokuments or any internal drive where to you have mowed your dokuments.

Regards

Thanks Svendus. None of my project files are stored on my system drive (C:) -- they're all stored on different internal or external drives.

Can you guide me a little more as to what I should do? I opened the properties for the drive where the project is stored and clicked the "Security" tab then checked "Allow" for all permissions.

Is there something else I need to do?

Thanks,
Tony

OK, I've been testing this and some really strange things are happening. I'll do my best to outline my steps below.
Note: In all methods below I've tried running Pano2VR as administrator and not as administrator -- either way produces the same results.

Method 1 (produces the problem):
  • Open Pano2VR
  • File > Recent Files
  • Choose existing project
  • Project opens
  • File > Save as...
  • Windows save dialog opens but then the app crashes.
Method 2 (produces the problem):
  • Double-click the project file from Windows Explore.
  • Project opens in Pano2VR.
  • File > Save as...
  • Windows save dialog opens but then the app crashes.
Method 3 (does NOT produce the problem):
  • Open Pano2VR
  • File > Save
  • Windows save dialog appears and allows me to enter a "dummy" filename for a blank project (or I can canel out of this save dialog).
  • Blank project saves (or control returns back to Pano2VR if save was cancelled)
  • File > Recent Files
  • Choose existing project
  • Project opens
  • File > Save as... does NOT produce the error
  • All seems to work from this point.

** Something in the File > Save process of a blank project seems to "fix" the problem. It's a crazy workaround for the time being but obviously something isn't right. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Tony

When you say to "check the system permission and that the settings are saved" what exactly do you mean? By "system", do you mean Windows or Pano2VR? And what settings? I'm unclear as to what you're referring to. I apologize.

Thanks,
Tony

The image are from a Swedish Windows 10 pro installation Sorry

Image

1: Did you try to run the pano 2vr exe with administrative rights in
C:\Program Files\Pano2VR5 or Pano2VR if You have a new installation

Image

2: if it do not help you can try to make a new account with administrative privilege
if it runs under this new account You do have Register Trouble

3: Question do you have any Register cleaning or booster application installed ?
these programs do often more harm than help on windows

4: if it is do to the last Quistion it will be a new Windows 10 installation that counts.

Our Pano2vr setup
Windows 10 HOME (64bit) build 10586

Pano2vr version 4.5.3 - The issue you discuss below is not present.

Pano2vr version 5.x includes all updates to 5.0.2 The issue you discussed below IS PRESENT.

Observations:
Displays the ERR box ever time I click on a 'Blue Folder' where the search branches to Windows Files and Folders Explorer.
So I create a basic Pano2vr project using Version 4.5.3. Then open this new project in 5.0x to complete it

While your suggestion for looking for ERR's reporting.. it appears the method only produces a report indicates that while using Pano2vr 5.x there was an ERR... but it does not show a list of LOADED active files at the time the Err occured.

The Windows Error Reporting - (.WER file type) does report BOTH the Currently loaded files and that an error occurred. One or more of the loaded files is causing the error.

Here is the path to your Windows 10 AppCrash pano2vr.exe report...

c:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportArchive\AppCrash... pcdr2d.. very long folder name\Report.wer This is standard TEXT FILE.... open it using MS Notepad text editor.
Path to Report.WER
Path to Report.WER
WER30july16pano2vr5.JPG (196.3 KiB) Viewed 8920 times
This LOADING list is created at the time you click the Pano2vr desktop icon to START the program. It is a recorded step by step pano2vr 5.0x loading sequence.

Here is what my 31-July-16 12:20PM .WER report shows:

Hi,
Graphics driver issues are associated with Pano2VR 5 not opening at all, so I would not of thought drivers have anything to do with this issue.

Reading from the top it looks like when you try to open an open dialog box Pano2VR closes and Windows say the Panoramic converter has stopped responding.

What happens if the project is on the desktop, does it then work ok?
So Pano2VR can access a local drive rather than a network drive.

The external locations, are they aways active? or do the drives have to wake up?
Please give feed back.

Just throwing it out there, if you upgraded to version 5 and then upgraded to windows 10 it may be worth reinstalling V5.
In the past, OS upgrades have caused some problems with links to folders being broke.

Again may be worth a try

Graphics driver issues are associated with Pano2VR 5 not opening at all, so I would not of thought drivers have anything to do with this issue.
Should note that Graphics Drivers have NOT changed between using Pano2vr 4.5.3 and 5.x .

I'll check on the Pano2vr project creation drive locations on local C:/ tomorrow. We have 2 external hard drives USB 3 connected to our desktop. These 2 each 3 TB drives (E:\ and F:\) are "ALWAYS ON" with the 'wakeup' soft switched OFF. Our production work IS located on the F:\ and works with branching to Files and Folders Explorer Pano2vr 4.5.3 AND 5.x with dragging/dropping files into the GUI. With 5.x just can't use the blue folder icon button to navigate through the Win Files and Folders Explorer with out getting ABEND and program shut down.

We CAN use the work around in the 5.0 GUI by clicking on the path/filename.??? to change the path OR filename. IF we can change the 5.0x path and skin name to another skin name... why won't the 5.x blue folder SEARCH feature function the same way ?

We have only 1 Network 6TB drive but we do not do project creation because its a Timed NAS Backup drive.

Pano2vr 4.5.3 there are no issues... after fully loaded .. it will go out and let you select project files from internal hard drive and external hard drives. Still does to this day.

Pano2vr "dynamic linked library" .dll files changed, upgraded and more than doubled in .dll in numbers between Version 4.5.3 and version 5.0x. 1 or more of these .dlls is creating the issue. Now have to learn which one (s)

We create our inital project in 4.5.3 with Windows 10 and then in 5.0x open and finish dragging and dropping additional pano's into the project. Then use the 5.0 output for publishing our work to our website. With 5.0 we actually completed a .mp4 movie embed in a pano as well as a time lapsed panorama ... So 5.0 works ok.. except abnormally ENDING and shutting down when trying to Blue Envelope icon OPEN or SAVE a FILE. What ever Pano2vr 5.x program code is being used to Blue Envelope SEARCH using Windows 10 Files and Folders Explorer is causing the Abnormal Ending the program and shutting it down. Maybe I should record a movie and post it here in forum - but that takes time to figure out how to do.

The external locations
External drives do not mount automatically on windows 10
if Pano2VR writes to a dish that are not mounted there will be errors
but if the project file as per normal are on the external drive together with the generated Panorama it should be mounted

We did run a project from the desktop on Daves PC on a remote TeamViewer Desktop (same problem)
and we cleaned the registry posts in the registry editor
and reinstalled Pano2VR5
Pano2VR5 still crashes

So do to a lot of experiences with Windows upgrades !
The only way is to format the C:drive and perform a clean clean install of Windows 10

Note: the old Windows 7 or 8.1 key are automatically transformed under the Windows 10 upgrade
but it may be necessary to perform a telephone activation of Windows on the new installation

On the new fresh Windows installation do not forget to make a backup image of the system for future recovery.

@ Hopki Pat Albright has a PC same model DELL same Graphic driver where it is running

Hi,
Thinking about this, It could also be your antivirus software.
We did have a case of this with a customer. They disable the antivirus and tested and it work ok.
So they then had to adjust the setting in the antivirus software.

Thank you SVENDUS for the update on my computer progress.

Our Dell 27" All in One desktop is a mobile or notebook AND a desktop.

Our video card has two services for INTEL 4600 uses on battery power and NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M on plugged in 120V power.
Since our computer runs on 120V power all the time I deleted the video Nvidia driver. Reboot. Windows 10 was smart enough to recognize the Nvida hardware.. and reinstalled and UPdated driver to current driver.
Opened Pano2vr 5.0.2. Clicked on the Blue Folder Icon.
End result: Pano2VR 5.0.2 Abnormally ENDED and closed the program.

As Svendus recommended I created a new USER and logged in as new user. Opened Pano2vr 5.0.2. Clicked on the Blue Folder Icon.
End result: Pano2VR 5.0.2 Abnormally ENDED and closed the program.

As Svendus recommended I Opened McAfee Internet Security and STOPPED Virus and Firewall Services.
Opened Pano2vr 5.0.2. Clicked on the Blue Folder Icon.
End result: Pano2VR 5.0.2 Abnormally ENDED and closed the program.

Observation:
Pano2vr 4.5.3 acts normally.. when Clicking on the Search branch to MS Files and Folders Explorer does not abnormally END and closed the program
