Hotspot creation problems

Q&A about the latest versions

I'm trying to create hotspots on the large panorama (equirectangular image 16000 x 8000 px) and Pano2VR always crashes after clicking yes in the dialogue with question "Should the hotspot file xxxxx.png be created?"
It shows Windows critical error: "Instruction on address 0x004924d9 has referenced to memory 0x0000000. It is not possible to use written with this memory." (on Windows XP)
When I try the same on Linux Ubuntu 9.10, it works, but when I convert the input file to cube faces (I need to hotspot the pano-head plate, thats why I need to convert to cube-faces), it crashes too. Directly with the cube faces input it crashes both in Windows as in Linux.
I tested it with both latest regular and latest beta version.
Is there any chance for this problem to be solved?

Thanks
Jakub

I am now having exactly the same issue but with a much smaller pano.
This is happning with the Flash Format, I have not tried the QT format.
The problem only appears to have started in the past month or so.
I had no problem with this same software in early November.
I am using Pano2VR 2.3 beta 4 with a company license on Windows XP 32bit - SP3.
Maybe a new XP update or Adobe flash incompatibilty, perhaps? I have the full suite of Adobe Design Premium CS4 installed.

Any feedback on this to help me through this, even a workaround, would be much appreciated.
I need the hotspot area to cover a larger target. Point hotspots will help but are too limited in their contact area to really work with this particular project.

Thanks

Did you know you can avoid area hotspots altogether by 'stacking' a button (using an invisible button-image) onto a point hotspot?
Because of problems I had with area hotspots (a loooong time ago) I decided I would never use them again. Fortunately I soon found that with point hotspots and some (more or less dirty) skin editor tricks I could achieve practically anything I wanted.

Thanks for the workaround concept. I ran out of time on this project so had to finish with a basic point hotspot.
I will experiment with the stacking approach later.
I really like the ease of adding an area hotspot so hope someone out there can give us a fix for this feature problem.

I have found a workaround for the fatal program crash when trying to create a new area hotspot. First you need a *.png area hotspot file that has been created in a previous project. Next, create a copy and rename the file to suit the new project. Then when loading the input source file in the new project, load the renamed *.png file. Finally, open the hotspot editor and erase the old area and redraw the new area to suit. It adds a small extra step to start but since you only need to create one hotspot area file, I can manage.

This program crash issue is clearly only a problem for a few of us. It will probably go away if I upgrade or reinstall my OS. Just not ready for that step yet!

Of course I tried uninstalling, reinstalling, multiple rebooting etc. Next step is to try a registry cleaner ... afer a full backup.

Hope this helps the few in need.

Hi:
I only installed Pano2VR yesterday, all my QTVR are "dead" on Windows 7.
I must be missing something, I just hit "Hotspots", then "Point Hotspots", clicked the scene to add one, typed "Click Here" for Tile, the name of the jpg for "Url:", and the same jpg name for "Target:" I outputted as a Flash, HTML and it seems pretty good:

I just put it all in a separate folder rather than trying to integrate it into the rest of the website.
Using the QTVR (which points to the jpg files) in it, it only took me about 30 minutes to produce this.
THANK YOU Pano2VR!!

This is an update to my earlier post quoted below.
I am happy to report that Ver 2.3 Beta 5 appears to have fixed the problem.

Much thanks ... also looking forward to working with the new features.

I have been adding more "image hotspots" to a panorama, using the area method. How to get back to the panorama?
If I have the name of the JPG in both the Url: and Target: it works OK but I have to close the new image window by clicking the "X" - which is in different places in Firefox and IE.
If I just have the JPG in the Url: I can close the image by using the browser "back button" - BUT the panorama view is now the original default one - not looking at the original picture.
I would like a nicer way - like click on image to close it - or something.
Here is a sample:

Thanks

Hi
If you search the forum you should be able to find out how to use a text box to load an external image.

Here is a quick sample of what you can do, and yes, you can use area hotspot too.
Kind regards
Hopki :)

copying a previous *_hs.png didnt help..

few notes:
- No crash when adding area hotspots, if my panorama is: "auto - Equirectangular" (tif)
- Crash when adding area hotspot, if panorama is: "Auto - Vertical Strip (Tile Size: 2824/8)" (png)

hi,

oh thanks..I was thinking 2.3 B6 is higher : )

unfortunately didnt fix the problem,
when adding a area hotspot, it says no hotspot file, want to create one? - Ok > crash..

But it works, if I convert my vertical strip to "Equirectangular" first..

Seems to crash with vertical strip everytime or out of memory errors..

Also 1 note:
- I batch transformed 68 panoramas to vertical strip, and it asks for 1 face size, but actually they are not all same sized.. (maybe causing problems..?)

hi,

nope..didnt work.

Can anyone test, if you can add area hotspots to anything else than "Equirectangular" images ?
(for example try convert it to vertical/horz. strips/tee/cross, then try adding area hotspots)

I tested this on Mac OS 10.5.8 and all works fine. Both Vertical Strips and Equirectangular...
