Doing a bit of snooping on our iPad3 to learn what browser is being used.
Apparantly this does not work on Android but there is a Settings menu location that displays current webkit browser version.
Click on your iPad internet browser icon.
in the URL address bar type in
javascript:alert(navigator.appVersion)
and press the Go button
Our iPad 3 displays a info box that reads

5.0(iPad; CPU OS 6_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebkit/536.26 (KHTML like Gecko) Version 6.0 Mobile/10b141 Safari/8536.25
[ ... OK ....] button

So it appears that our iPad 3 is using Webkit 536.26
ALSO look here for Safari browsers and webkit versions http://www.useragentstring.com/pages/Safari/
