Lots of very interesting improvements in v4, but I can still not get satellite images on the map view. I have tried changing firewall setting, with no result.
I live in Los Angeles.

Oh.... that is very odd. Can you please send me a screenshot?

No problem here on a Mac. I can see satellite view.

I’m delighted to see drag-panning and mouse-wheel zooming restored.

I wonder if you are zoomed in too far?
If you choose to view via Google Maps in your browser do you get to see the satellite images with the same coordinates and zoom level?

No, in Google maps I can zoom in much further and still get a satellite image. Just now I zoomed out in p2vr to cover all of LA and still did not get a satellite image.

I just tried the same thing on my Mac and there it works. So it seems to be a W7 (64bit) issue...?

I have just tested with Windows 7 32 Bit PC and then Windows 7 64 Bit PC and in both cases the satellite images failed.
I used a prominent location "Australia's Sydney Opera House".

So yes, there is an issue with satellite images failing to show and it's not limited to Windows 64 Bit PC.

Have you tried using another map provider?
(go to Settings / Images / Map Images Provider)
OpenAerialMap has satellite images, but high resolution only in Northern America as far as i know....

Ok, I can now reproduce this in my VM, but still no idea where this is coming from. It is now in the bug tracker: Issue #619

Edit:
I found the reason and this will be fixed in the next version.
