iOS 6 & 6.01

Q&A about the latest versions

I've looked over the forums and have not found a clear answer on why our tours no longer work as seamlessly (not acceptably responsive, gyro or no gyro) on the iPhones running iOS6 and updated iOS 6.01. What are the optimal settings for these devices now? Does the new safari now allow for scaling? If this is the case then should we throw mobile settings out the window for now and just set the cube face size on the main tab in the HTML5 settings? Does this scaling issue also mean that skin elements can no longer be scaled or does scaling just apply to cube face sizes? Thank you for your response.

If someone has a sample tour that is working seamlessly on iOS6 & 6.01 then please share the link and the settings used in publishing. Thanks for your help.

I've worked hard to understand wich was responsible of the failures on iOS 6 and iOS6.01

It works, http://delfi.leicaeme.com/Proyectos/Paj ... jaros.html

You need to mark png conversion on the svg setting, and put cubeface 1440 and mobile cubfaces up to 940 size on Pano2VRv4Beta2

Be sure that all svg and png files are on the same directory than the jpg cubeface images.

This tour is working fine on my iPhone 4S with gyro: www.fachwen.org/beacon Settings for the smaller cube faces are the same as recommended in the most recent video tutorial mentioned in the beta3 release.

KRobertson, can you send me the link to the referenced video? The only one that I saw was the 5 minute tour creator. Thx.

I've done all you've said and I still am having issues with iPhone 4's, 3GS, and 3G. iPhone 4S works, but still not as smooth as it originally did. If I figure out any extra tips, I will be sure to post.

Thanks,

Frank

So after spending some time updating my older HTML5 tours to not only ensure they're matching the new '70% image compression' best practice...I began to notice a trend. Any tours with an output under 2MB worked better than any over that amount. I have a tour that's 1.9MB that seems to work very smooth (similar to pre iOS6 response), but anything above that it starts to become problematic. I have one tour that's an output of 2.1MB and it works on iPhone 4S and above, but anything below it's not coming up. I haven't tested it yet, but based on how smooth the response was, I'm feeling the 1.9MB output tour will work just fine on the pre iPhone 4S version phones.

Here's some examples if this helps anyone:

1.9MB tour (2 panoramas, video popup, audio, and simple toolbar) - http://portvirtualtours.com/PORTtours/A ... ama_1.html

2.0MB tour (15 panoramas, video popup, a few popup toolbars) - http://portvirtualtours.com/PORTtours/A ... ont_1.html

2.1MB tour (50+ panoramas, video popup, map, several popup toolbars) - http://ulm.edu/virtualtour

Let me know if anyone is seeing a similar trend or if there's a way to make my tours smaller in size without sacrificing quality.

Thanks for any help in advance!

Frank,

How is the output calculated? XML + Cubes + Audio + Video on a per scene basis? Since the audio and video stream separately are they included or not? Thanks for your insight.

I made them all the same size as you've instructed

1440 max @ 70%
Mobile
1024 x 960 @ 70%
960 x 600 @ 70%
480 x 416 @ 70%

Is there another place I should be looking for file sizes? When inserting my images into my tours, I start is an equitectangular image is 8440px X 2440px.

Thanks

I'm not positive how it's calculated. My older tour has audio which is embedded, but all my videos are youtube (not pinned) which means no extra size. That being said, to help clarify what I'm seeing when you click the HTML5 output button and its finished, the output in the HTML5 portion of the main project screen will show the full file size. If you open up an older project you've done before, the file size will be identified as much smaller (like 2.3Kb), so to see the full size again, you have to re-output the HTML5 file and the size will change to 1-2MB in size or larger. Let me know if anything I've said is confusing.

Thanks

Frank,

Makes perfect sense to me. Thanks for the clarification. More questions coming. Still troubleshooting.

Hi,
Older versions of Pano2VR only reported the XML file size, a few KB. Now it reports the Folder size including all the images to give you a better idea of the actual size of the project.
