Nooooooo, 90%, 100% will crash big time.

I used:
960px @ 90% quality with Blackman/sink filter.

Hopki
Edit just added the skin if you want it.

This is 960px @ 90% quality....
Hello Martin, atomicmak and other posters on this thread,

When seeing the output Martin made with the example of atomicmak I noticed that the output is very sharp, much sharper then I usually get so I took the liberty to download the example equi of atomicmak and output it with Pano2VR 3b5, normal.ggt and a customized Simplex skin to compare the sharpness of Martin's and mine output.
Tiles are 960px @ 90% Q with Blackman-Sinc for interpolator.

Screenshot of manifest versions on iPad:

http://www.dmmdh.nl/forum_images/screen ... Martin.PNG

As you can see when comparing the PNG screenshots Martin's output is much sharper and I wonder why.
Q) Martin, you didn't mentioned it but can it be that you did some postprocessing on the tiles to sharpen them a bit ?

The reason I ask is this, when I did my tests to find out the best tile size for iPad (960px) I also tested the impact of -all- interpolators on the sharpness and image quality on the 960px tiles and I found out that the output sharpness and quality of Lanczos 3 and Blackman-Sinc, even after upscaling, is identical.

Can you enlighten me ?

BTW, when this sharpness issue is discussed I will remove the screenshots.

Sorry Smooth, I thought there were many more people participating this thread but I was wrong, naming you by name instead as "other posters" would be appropiate and much better.

So what should we set the Max Screen Size and the Tile Size to (in Mobile Tab) when creating Html5 files for 1st Generation iPads (and later) ?

Since 2nd generation (and later) iPads will probably be faster and more stable than 1st gen, it would be really helpful to know this sizing info to maximise compatibility on all these devices - especially as I don't own one to test myself ! :D

Any suggestions ?

Thanks ! :D

For first gen iPad setting the tile size to 960 px and the max screen size of 1025 px will do fine.
Although iPad v2 could probably handle much larger tile sizes the problem will be how to detect a v2 machine.
The screen resolution of v1 and v2 is the same and unless the label that the iPad reports to browsers is different it will impossible to detect a v2 machine.

Until this detection issue is solved you have to stick to 960px to prevent that browsers on iPad v1 machines will crash.....

Hi Wim
I just used Balckman/sink, and the Dynamic Kernel is unchecked.
If you look at the files side by side, mine may aper to be sharper, but you get a loss of quality, jagged lines etc.

Ok, then the difference in sharpness (and the jagged lines etc. in your output) must be caused by the setting of the Dynamic Kernel that is checked in my setup.
I didn't expect that it would make much of a difference but apperently it do.

well i have been trying different options and params to try the memory test. Yeah 960px is good and our dear smooth has some expertise for giving output which prooved much much sharper than what i tried in all aspects.

but still what i have seen through the ipad app is that memory using is still high if we are talking bout loading many pano's in one app.

I was trying krPano also as i bought it and found the js version they have is much lighter and its tool krTools makes much more sharper images by default 1024px cube size and runs very clean and lighter side on ipad as app.

Also i did tried making tour and loading through different pano's the fade transition went also smooth. Where as through html if i load 2nd or 3rd pano given output from pano2VR sometimes it crash and sometime it doesn't.

My question is can we have a simple tutorial or may be lighter viewer for ipad's or Mobile Device from Pano2VR ?
i really dont want to go manual way as Pano2VR is my buddy for all the work i do :)

Currently i am trying/evaluating krPano as i just made tour and checked and the quality and stability was much more good than output of pano2vr.

Sorry if i am writing something wrong bout pano2vr but this is just an experience i had with ipad app building with output of pano2vr.

May be this would help many experts to look into it for making lighter player and more quality output.

will soon make the krpano version online just for comparison on monday.

regards
Mak
