Ok...here's the problem: The image is too large and therefore needs too much RAM. Convert to cube faces, turn off Edit cube faces as horizontal cross in the settings and it should work.

If you search the forum you should be able to find out how to use a text box to load an external image.

Here is a quick sample of what you can do, and yes, you can use area hotspot too.
Kind regards
Hopki :)
Dear Hopki:
Thank you so much - I am a slow learner :( but finally got the point hotspot to work by searching the forum. Can it be done the same way for area? It seems there is no place for the skin ID info. The point image seems distracting and I need to let people click anywhere in the area hotspot.
Thanks again

Hi Peter
Look how you use hotspot proxy’s in the videos.
When you are able to link an area hotspot to a skin element have a look at the modifiers.

You are looking at move X and Y with mouse X and Y.

What you will be able to do is have an element such as an arrow linked to an area hotspot with the actions mouse enter show element and mouse leave hide element, both set for target $self.
With the modifier set the arrow will track with the mouse.

You can then add the actions to load the external image into the arrow.

You can end up with something like this:
http://www.hopkimedia.co.uk/robot/
hover over the robots head and chest to open images, there is also one for the keyhole.
All the best
Hopki :)

Dear Hopki:
Something about "Old dogs and new tricks" :(
I never managed to do what you suggested and I could not get a very elegant presentation but this is what I got:
http://www.arts.ualberta.ca/uvp/pages/VK_Church.htm
I have done 4 churches and have more to do.
Thanks for your help.

I did visit your Church Site. All the still image viewed properly. All the panorama links.. to other panoramas worked properly.
IE8 and WinVista 32 Ultimate.

Thank you for showing us your work.

Hi:
I just got back to making another panorama.
My old ones - like:
http://www.arts.ualberta.ca/uvp/pages/m ... /rear.html
work fine - here I used <img src="image.JPG"> as the URL and a skin I modified.
Now, when I do exactly the same thing I get "OOPS that file is not on the server ---"
I looked through forums and someone said put # before the URL so I used:
#<img src="image.JPG">
That now works as at:'
http://www.arts.ualberta.ca/uvp/pages/m ... _0360.html
but I get a # in the image box.
I spent 10 hours trying to sort this out before I used #
What did I do different - or can I get rid of the # in the box?
Thanks
Peter

Hi:
I have used version 2.3.4 in the past and can make a point hotspot go to a jpg with just something like: <img src ="vk11.jpg"> in the Url box.
I am due to give a talk in Moscow and wanted to download the free-trial for them there and go through it.
When I downloaded 3.2.0 and do the same I get "oops cannot find http://231.000.1439. ="vk11.jpg">" or something like that - it seems to think the file is not local.
Is this just because I am using the trial version or has something changed since 2.3.4.
Sorry - I leave for Moscow in two weeks.

Hi Peter
The external image loader in version 3.x.x should make it easier to load external images.
In the Skin Editor there is a tool that looks like a globe, this is the Add external image or SWF tool.

This can be used with either point or area hotspots.

The quick and simple way for images only in Flash:
Add an External Image/SWF loader to the skin, set it to visible and give it an action of: Mouse Click => Set Text: (leave blank) => $self
Add a container in the skin and set the Hotsot Proxy ID to *
Give the container the actions: Mouse Click => Set Text => $ht => External Image Loader.

In the Hotspot editor add the pictures file name in the Target text field, and not the Url this can be done with Area or Point Hotspots.
The External Image/SWF loader is not active or has no mass when not displaying an image so does not need to be hidden.

Using the Wild Card, * in the Hotspot Proxy ID means it will react to any click on any hotspot be it Point or Area.
Once the hotspot is clicked the text in the target text field is read into the external loader by the place holder $ut, so then displays the image. Clicking the external loader set's blank text so removing the image.
Hotspots for navigation can still be used as the target data will make no sense to the External Image Loader, the target text field can still be used for it's intended purpose, Pan/Tilt?FoV or _blank, _self.

There are other ways to use this, but the above is the quickest and easiest.

Hopki

Dear Hopki:
I tried what you suggested - I think - but it still will not load images.
I'll try to attach the skin I made - if I can find it.
I have about 40 point hotspots to add to a panorama - click - open image in window - click window return to panorama.

Hi Peter
I have made a little project with it all working as described in my post above and using the skin you provided.
The skin worked, but you needed a hotspot template in the skin editor. Unlike Area hotspots, Point Hotspots require a Hotspot Template before the * wild card will work with them. The template makes the connection to the hotspot editor when no Url is being used.

In my example I am using two Point Hotspots and one Area.
The Green Hotspots will open the images. The Yellow are for navigation to move to the next panorama.
The Area can be found by clicking on the "01" of the word "Image 01" in the opening panorama. This will open image, pic_01.

You may leave the image open and click on new hotspot to change it or close it by clicking on the image.

Regards
Hopki

Dear Hopki:
I am SO SORRY to be so dumb.
I cannot get it to show a message on mouse over and then go to the pic when I click the message.
I want to do the same with point and area hotspots.
Like I did with:
http://www.arts.ualberta.ca/uvp/pages/m ... lobby.html
Are the tutorials correct for the latest version?

Dear Hopki:
Hotspots again.
I am building a website for grade 3 social studies.
My tours work fine on PCs and I just got an iPad (Retina) to test them on that. I can move from room to room but when a wall picture is clicked on the iPad it does not close. I went back and re-used the peter.ggsk you made for me in 2011 and the same result:
http://www.arts.ualberta.ca/uvp/UA/Vill ... /hallN.htm
I know it can be done as a recent post from Sweden (?) had cute expanding pics which close fine on the iPad.
For the hotspots I go from room to room with the xml file in the URL box but the pics have the jpg name in the Target.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Peter
