I would like button click and beeps, but hay, that’s me.

Not coming from a Photo background, I am wondering about time and workflow. How long to add good visual affects and funky 3D sound? When it becomes the standard are you going to be able to charge any more for it, because every one will be doing it?

I always look at your panos and wish I could achieve the quality you chaps do with your panos, Erik, Hum and Smooth, as with others in the forum ,so for me it’s the image. Can pano2VR get better at creating sharper images, and be a little more forgiving for those of us that are not quite as good as others. There is a quality difference if you first use Pano2QTVR to convert to cubes first then use Pano2VR to make the Flash file, even with the pictures I take.

So what missing in Pano2VR ?
Or is it me!!!

I have a question for you all with regards to ownership of panos. When a customer has a pano, is it theirs to do with as they want, ie give a copy to some one else. Or is it like a Photo, you charge to make another?

I some what agree bi-directional [stereo L /R] audio (not necessary front/back quad audio) is a step in the correct direction.

With surround sound affect I would need a set of rear speakers. Most computers are sold with audio on the motherboard and have only L/Right speakers.

However, useful and functional object embedding is important.

I agree that what we are doing now is 'gimmicky' but it also is necessary to demonstrate proof that there really IS a next step.

Example: http://panos.ifuturo.net/photozoom/

Yes this is FPP. Click the hotspot under the painting.. it pops out an embbed object with some really functional zoom in/out features.

If the truth be known... directional sound, rotating embedded objects have been around for at least 10 years only in another format.
[He gets into the way-back machine] Anyone remember a software package called Live Picture Reality Studio. It used object modeling of people on the beach, crabs crawling side ways and wire frame bi - directional audio.

Then came QTVR, JAVA and now Flash in its seemingly infinite projection flavors.

To stay on topic: If you took the images you retain copyright until you give it to someone else. We usually do this in writing. Copyright transfering may include distribution and usage conditions also usually in writing.

Well nice done 360Texas.
Thanks for sharing your workflow.

Flash: I definitely see it as a nice addon for
Buttons, loading page, hotspot animations. So mainly linking to externally created swf's
But not many more. Why:
Because I think we have to change the software concept.
Using FPP, DevalVR (coding software) you can do amazing stuff. Create flipping images opening, embedding videos etc.
This gives you interactivity inside an interactive panorama. BUT
Doing this kind of stuff requires programming skills, a learning curve into the software etc.
Pano2VR = mainstream (at least it has become so)
Offering this programming functionnality might be interesting but ( I suppose so) relatively complex and time consuming to implement for thomas and difficult for most of us to hook into.

An alternative would be to allow linking to animated gifs or animated png's

To thomas: Concentrating on offering an easy way to link swf's into the pano would be a good way in the right direction.

Directional sound.
This adds interactivity in an impressive way. Implementing this into the software through hotspots linking to sound files being played when hovering or zooming around is "quite easier " to implement.
So the choice to focus primairily on directional sound from thomas is well choosen.

Download speed will not increase that much especially if there will be an option to background load sound after loading the pano. (hint )
This said
I believe flash being funky and necessary but directional sound will improve client perception and add some real interactive experience.

Need embedded sound? ALERT I think we are having FUN NOW !!

Here is a working sound loop with a small volume control and Left/ right control sliders. It is only 64kb. It is public domain. Use it as a starter until you can design and build your own.

solar.swf [ 61.8 KiB | Viewed 4949 times ]

Quick look at the revised landscape with object and sound loop embedded object
jump to http://360texas.com/services/swishmax2flash9/index.htm

Few years ago in the World Wide Panorama Event called "Energy" I found a Swish work file .swi controller and attached the Sound loop to it. QTVR .mov uses 'Sprites' sound elements

10. So next task was to create a new HS POINT and I called it 'soundhs'

Image

11. Next is to use the Skin Editor to insert a new cross hair target (.) like we did before with the clock. Add soundhs for ID's.
Then add a text [T] child and be sure add soundhs for ID

Image

Then edit the child and add yes I got it right this time. <img src="solar.swf" hspace="0" vspace="0">
add the ID and Hotspot Proxy ID 'soundhs'

Image

Then say ok to all and create a panorama .swf that includes both the embedded object AND a Sound loop object.

Wow people are jumping up and down to get their favourite feature!

Directional Sound vs Gimmick Flash

I want both but Thomas has already stated Directional Sound is next and I for one am looking forward to it. :D

I'm sure gimmick Flash has a place but as yet nothing I have seen is warranted for a panorama scene.
Dave's sound control and balance for volume is good the skin. Again useless as a hotspot!

<constructive comment>

Merit or not.. the concept of embedding audio and objects into a flash panorama as hotspots can be done.
Now all we need to do is find a useful application. Lets be creative.

Yes, I read it and everybody else's 2 cents worth.

Doesn't make you right.

Sound is far more useful to everybody over spinning, flashing moving object on top of a panorama image.
The general user will have little use for Flash gimmicks.

I think it is very plan to see that the people who are Flash coders or learning Flash want it at the expense of general users so they can play!
You shouldn't run down sound because it interrupts your play time! It's been on the list for a very long time.

Eventually both will co-exist anyway.
