Hi,

I'm shooting my panos with an 8mm Sigma lens. Now I'm wondering what lens would be the perfect choice to take a video for an embedded video. Since the final pano will use an equirectangular projection and because of the heavy distortion I don't think the 8mm lens is perfect for taking the video.

So I would like to ask for your suggestion - what lens do you use on your DSLR for taking an embedded video clip?!

Thanks,

Detlef

Hi Detlef,
If you look at the process of embedding, you are extracting a patch that is more rectilinear then anything else.
So your lens should not distort the video as this will make it harder to "transform: the video in the patch.
If you are going to use the fisheye, then don't get to close and use the centre of the lens where there is less distortion.
