Measuring distances within a panorama

I don't imagine this is anything like possible, but are there any techniques one could look at/investigate that would allow viewers to measure distances within a panorama? For instance, if a viewer is looking in a kitchen, it would be great if they could click 2 points to measure the distance between them.

I think this would call for far more than a simple 'static' panoramic image, but thought I'd ask if anyone has explored this.

Hi,
You would need far more data, depth maps, and also the known height of the camera from the floor.
We looked at this but most folks do not have the equipment to capture this properly so was never implemented.

Understood.
We actually create our panoramas from 3D models, so creating a depth map should be reasonably painless. Obvs I am not suggesting you develop just for us ;-)
