How to eliminate color banding ?

I'm setting up another 3D interior scene, my PNGs are 10000x5000 pixels big (I have three) and those are imported into Pano2VR.

The output is 96Mb big (with those 3 images via hotspots) - but I've got really unattractive banding on my ceilings.

I believe I've set everything up for Maximum Quality, so please can you tell me how to improve the images within my VR scene, by eliminating that banding (that isn't there at all in the PNG files) ?

Thanks.

You can add some noise in Photoshop to the areas where the banding happens.

Hmmmm... apparently the official solution is "Tough luck mate, use another program to fix the problems caused by Pano2VR".

Have you tried playing with any of the other image export filters, as for some reason several of the 'default' settings throughout this program immediately need changing to something more useful.

Having just realised that the blurry, lower contrast images in Pano2VR are (partly) caused by the Player Pano2vr_player.js compressing the RGB ranges from 0-255 to 15-255; then you've got a smaller range of RGB values to work with, which is going to cause some banding in similar colours. Also some potential weird tints appearing too.

Not a lot you can do there, other than to precompress your initial panoramic image Levels to that 15-255 range, see if you can touch them up to look acceptable like that, then re-expand them to 0-255 and hope that when they're re-reduced to 15-255 in the Pano2VR Viewer, they look about the same as before.

They don't get 'converted' to 15-255 when the tiles are created, only when viewed.
