WebVR: very blurry panos

Hi,

When viewing a tour made with Pano2VR in my headset (Samsung Galaxy S9, Homido and OEM cardboard) the panos look very blurry. This is because the left and right sections of the screen do not show the same area but are somewhat shifted horizontally.

Please also see this post from more than a year ago:

Will this be fixed in an update? In the WebVR settings I can still only choose Cardboard 2014 or 2015.

Thanks!

Hi!

Are you using the latest version of Pano2VR?

Can you send us a link to check?

Hi,

Yes, the latest version.

Actually it's reproducible using any tour made using version 6.1.x

For example: https://ggnome.com/samples/pano2vr_6/melbourne/

See attached screen capture.

In version 6.1.9 the issue is still there.

Any idea if there is a workaround?

The horizontal shift is expected, that is what gives you the 3D effect. A quick demonstration is to look out a window from a few feet away. Makes sure you can see the complete frame of the window. Now alternate closing one eye. (Close left, then close right). You will notice what you see out the window is different between your two eyes. That is how you can tell something is 2ft or 20ft away. The horizontal shift mimics that. Now, it is not a perfect 3D representation. You are taking an image shot from a single location and shifting it to simulate 3D. To get real 3D you need a camera with 2 lenses.

Most VR headsets have adjustment so that the image aligns with your eyes, start by adjusting those. If that doesn't work, check if things are sharp when processed as a standard 360. Next check that the initial images are sharp and have a resolution suitable for use.
