I have been using the patch tool in Pano2VR quite successfully until now.

On this one particular pano I tried to use this to patch some broken tile on the floor. When the patch was re-imported back into Pano2VR, there is an obvious square area now visible where the patch was created. Why is this? I didn't do anything different in Photoshop compared to when I patch the nadir. See the screen capture attached.

One other question... is there a way to export the individual patched panos as jpegs in the original pano dimensions?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Interesting, how did you save it, it looks like the resolution is far to low.
To test, extract the patch, make a note of the file size and resolution.
Then do your editing on PS and save it. What is the resulting file size and resolution?

Thanks for your reply Hopki.

Well, I extract the patch from Pano2VR as jpeg at 90%.

I edit it PS CC 21.01 and then save it back as a jpeg at quality 12.

Funny thing is, inside of PS the image size is 500K and yet on disk the filesize reported is only 90K.

Not really sure what to make of all of this.

Thanks.

So...
What was the file size when the patch eas extracted from Pano2VR.
If you open the patch does it look sharp?
Try changing the patch file format to PSB, knowing JPEG is a lossy format.
Does this solve the issue?

Hello again Hopki,

Once the patch is extracted from Pano2VR the file size is 55KB let's say. After I finish in PS and then save it back to jpg at maximum, the file size increases to about 90KB. The patch looks no different to me in PS before or after editing (in terms of sharpness). The only time I see that problem is once the patch file is imported back into Pano2VR.

I tried using the psb file format instead, and this worked perfectly!! Thank you.

So my other question now... is there a way to export the patched panorama back to an equirectangular flat image like the original?

Thanks again,

John

Hi John,

So my other question now... is there a way to export the patched panorama back to an equirectangular flat image like the original?

Once you have patched the image you can use Convert button or the Transformation output.
Set either to export the equirectangular image and make sure for the Convert Image you include the patch.

If this panorama is going to be for sharing on social media then use the Quick Share button after you have patched it.

This also includes patches and will obey any viewing limits you may set.
