Hi, I know it has been asked before, can I create a search field, to find specific nodes?

I have a project with 300 nodes (train stations), I ve created a categorized menu, but it's still difficult for the user to find a specific station.

Any other solutions welcome!

Hi Dizz,

Can you give me a couple of examples of your station names.

Hi Dizzz,

I've come up with a sample project that provides a popup search field you can see it at https://s3-ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com ... index.html

Click on the magnifying glass to open the search element.

When you start typing it will reduce the number of listings to reflect the search string

When you click on the name of the station the relevant panorama opens in the background

search-5.jpg

Clicking on the background or magnifying glass will hide the search

I'm going to write up a tutorial on how to build this sample.

Tony,

this is perfect! exactly what I was looking for!
My only (minor) problem is that the stations are in greek and words have accents. Is there any possibility, when someone is typing with or without accent, to have the same results?
Here is a map with complete listing of the stations
https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mi ... 99952&z=12.

Thanks again for your help!

Ηi Dizzz,

Here's a Greek version using some of the names from the link you sent. https://s3-ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com ... index.html

It recognises the accents. Unfortunately you can't set Custom Node ID's in text with accents so I've gone back to links using Node1, 2 etc.

cheers,

Tony

Hi Tony,

thank you for your quick response

I m wondering, if someone types the greek names without accents, is there any way to get the same results as if he used accents?

waiting anxiously for the tutorial, or a skin to study :)
thank you again for your help

I'm using a Greek keyboard on my iMac and accent is on by default so I can't really test if it would work or not. Are you looking to appeal to visitors with different languages?

Is so you could create alternative language versions.

Tony,

I ve tested it and when i ommit the accent, it's not showing the corresponding station.

Maybe a partial solution for accents, is to refer with 2 different words for the same station/node? (with/without accent, say κατεχάκη / κατεχακη) ?

I will definitely have to create alternative language versions, for people visitng greece, but I think I have to translate the whole project from scratch

I could send you a private link to see the actual project, if you would like.

thanx again

Hi,

I don't know if I'd really worry about it. If someone is looking for the station κατεχάκη by the time they have typed κατε it will be filtered and visible in the list.

If you want you can make the list depth any size you want to fit on the screen.

Love to see the project

cheers,

Tony

You have a point on that! Hope there arent many stations which have accents on the first letter!

I m sending you a msg with the project link, node links are based on geotagging, to position them properly, is my next step.

any comments are more than welcome!

Hi Tony,
Using you link: https://s3-ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com ... index.html
When I typed E, all the names in the list disappeared and I got all the names in my Macs contacts that start with E in the search field!

Hi Hopki,

That's a bit unexpected. I'm on an iMac running Mojave and I can't replicate what you are seeing.

Does it do the same with other letters?

What Keyboard are you using British or British PC?

Does it do the same thing with the English version? https://s3-ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com ... index.html

Is your Address book somehow integrated into your browser using an app?

It's strange as it's not even the style of the original list!

English version worked ok, so I guess my UK keyboard upset things a bit on this one.

Hi Hopki,

Yes I get the same thing in Safari. If I view the Greek version but type E using an Australian keyboard I see my contacts list but if I switch to a Greek keyboard and type E then it works as expected.

Found a fix for it I think! I added in autocomplete="off'" in the <input> string. Now it shows nothing for an 'E' or any key from the Australian keyboard.

Could you test it again?

Thanks,

Tony
