very cool, thank you!

i will intesify the theme in the next days .
first i try it with a small file ( to be under the 50mb free limit of phonegap ) and as an aplication for android (for testing it).
i am not the big html programmer, therfore i have to learn the general way to get it running. (and if this works, next step is to change to apple and bigger projects, which have fees)

your work and the implementation to iphone look very good. and the most interesting thing is that you showed me a way for a new distribution channel. additionaly to ibooks it is now possible to sell (or give away) a tour using the app-stores. e.g. a "travel book" with cardboard support...

thank you tony and please keep me up-to-date,

regards,
wiso

hi,

My experience is very simple. I just transferred my complete output folder to ipad using shareit or some other file transfer apps. Ran index.html file and it worked perfectly. I had no issues at all. I used built in safari browser and worked without any issue. You might have issue closing virtual tour but its not a big problem.

On windows PC I use and recommend clients to use Firefox for offline presentations of virtual tours. Firefox works perfectly for offline presentations. Chrome and internet explorer have some strange behaviours but I just tried many browsers and found firefox works :)

There are many different ways to display the Pano2VR content on the iPad.

I think, however, in the context of the original post...
I have an urgent requirement to display our Pano VR tours using an iPad (in an exhibition arena with no wifi).
Using the Phonegap approach may offer more options to lock down the iPad using "Guided Access" than would be available to a browser solution. In Exhibition scenarios you want to disable as many iPad controls as necessary to stop visitors accessing iPad functionality or content not appropriate to the intended use.

It can also provide a secure way to disseminate the content to specific iPads using their unique UDID's..

I would be interested in an easy way to send a file to a client to let him watch a pano tour on ipad...
I think epub would be perfect for that. It is plain html and readable by ibook app. Epub folder structure is simple (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EPUB).
I am just having some problems to "translate" the html output of pano2vr to xhtml files and a folder structure which would be epub compliant.
I already asked Hopki to write an output for epub in pano2vr. I really think it could be a very good option to send panoram tours to our clients.

thanks

Hi Oli,

I sound as though I'm harping on a bit about PhoneGap but it works so well with Pano2VR output that for me it's a great way to send files to clients.

All you have to do is have the client send you the UDID of the iPad/s or iPhone/s that they will install the app on. There's a website I've just found that automates the process https://betafamily.com/superudid. I haven't used it so can't vouch for it. Or its simple to find with or without iTunes https://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/iphon ... d-3530239/

You can add up to 100 devices per device type, which means that you can register 100 iPhones, 100 iPads, 100 Apple TVs and 100 Apple Watches to your developer account. You can't go past this limit but you can delete old ones no longer required and replace them with new ones. Once you add the device UDID you rebuild the Provisioning Profile, rebuild the app and it will include the clients UDID number.

You share the app with them and they download it onto their device. The good thing is that it restricts the installation of the app to specific devices that you control.

If you want it to be public then just publish it to the App Store.

Hi Tony,

I agree your phonegap approach sounds more logical. You are very good at making tutorials :) . Can you please send a link to make a phonegap application with pano2vr files?

Thank you for your comments they are much appreciated. I find writing the tutorials helps me understand the process and gives me a place to refresh my mind when I forget what to do.

I'm actually working on the tutorial at the moment and it should be ready tomorrow. I'll post it here when I'm done.

Just to tell you that I manage to output an epub file with panorama inside. Works well on ipad and android as well. Just send the epub to your client. He will open it with ibook and that's it!

Hopki, It would be very nice if the dev team could write an epub output format!

thanks

Hi oli,

If you check the website section https://ggnome.com/doc/pano2vr/5/widget-ibooks/ there is a whole page on embedding Panoramas into Apple's iBooks via iBooks Author.

Pano2VR have a special template "ibooks.ggt" that you can download and add to your HTML Template directory. When you output your project it creates a .wdgt file that can be placed within a iBook.

thanks Tony,

I already had a look at that widget thing. I am working on pc but not mac...
Ipad and android tablet are our main client support.
This template is interesting but Epub is just something newer than pdf or those html widget. Epub is cross platform. Epub is html5 and javascript compressed in a file.
That's why I don't understand why pano2vr could not have an output template for epub. I tried to modify the normal template to suit the needs of epub folder and file structure. But I am not a developper. I can just play a little bit with coding and scripting but don't have the skills to do it right.
I am pretty sure that it would not take much time for the pano2vr dev team to write down that template.

Hopki if you read this, I would be very glad if the dev team could have a look at that.

thanks

That’s an Android trick that does not work on iOS.
Did you get any issues with the browser not opening the pano.
If so did you adjust any browser setting to allow local content?
Regards,
Hopki
Hi Hopki, I just use the ES File Explorer, "open as", Firefox, and thats it. It allows me to add also an Alias to the homescreen, this is useful for off-line presentations. By the way, the Samsung Galaxy View 18.40 Inches adds a wow effect ;-)
Only the "cross dissolve" transitions are gone, but it goes anyway to the point.

Hi,

For those interested in using PhoneGap for offline viewing on iPad i've finished 3 of the 4 parts of the Tutorial.

This, step by step, tutorial describes how to use Adobe PhoneGap to create an app that you can install on your iOS device to play Pano2VR projects offline. It can also be used to distribute apps to clients for use on their specified iOS devices. You can find them at https://tonyredhead.com/phonegap-build/

Part 1: Adobe ID, Apple ID, Apple Developer Account
Creating your Adobe ID
Creating your Apple ID
Signing up for an Apple Developer Account

Part 2a: Apple Certificates
Setting up the Certificate
Generating the Certificate Signing Request (CSR) file
Creating the iOS Development Certificate

Part 2b: Apple Certificates
Creating the .p12 Certificate
Creating the App ID
Register Devices
Provisioning Profile

Note: Part 3 is currently in development

Part 3: Preparation, Required Files, App Build and Deployment
Preparing your Project Files
Icons and Splash Screens
PhoneGap App Build
Deploying to iOS

Note: I haven't given Part 2a or 2b a thorough review so there may be some grammatical errors etc. I'll be running through it over the next couple of days.

cheers,

Tony

Hi,

The complete "Offline Virtual Tours for iOS using Adobe PhoneGap" is now finished and online. You can find the 4 part tutorial here https://tonyredhead.com/phonegap-build

Part 1: Adobe ID, Apple ID and Apple Developer Account
  • Creating your Adobe ID
  • Creating your Apple ID
  • Signing up for an Apple Developer Account
Part 2a: Apple Certificates
  • Setting up the Certificate
  • Generating the Certificate Signing Request (CSR) file
  • Creating the iOS Development Certificate
Part 2b: Apple Certificates
  • Creating the .p12 Certificate
  • Creating the App ID
  • Register Devices
  • Provisioning Profile
Part 3: Project and Required Files
  • Assets
  • Config.xml
Part 4: Preparation, Required Files, App Build and Deployment
  • PhoneGap App Build
  • Deploying to iOS
Creating an iOS development App requires an Apple Developer Account (yearly fee) and a somewhat convoluted process to develop security certificates. However once you have completed the tutorial, created and installed your first app on your iOS device subsequent app builds are very simple and require only the upload of a zip file containing your Pano2VR project.

I will follow up on the iOS tutorial with an Android version, which is much simpler, as you can see by the project outline below:

"Offline Virtual Tours for Android using Adobe PhoneGap"

Part 1: Adobe ID, Apple ID and Apple Developer Account
  • Creating your Adobe ID
Part 2: Project and Required Files
  • Assets
  • Config.xml
Part 3: Preparation, Required Files, App Build and Deployment
  • PhoneGap App Build
  • Deploying to Android
Once again any comments, suggestions, issues with the tutorial please let me know.

Hi folks,
can we do an update of informations, regarding ibooks and goodreader apps in usae with Pano2vr_V6

The "simple" questions are:
What is performing well, where are the lacks and what does definately not work?

A) Using "ibooks" with an ipad:

A1. single panoramas, I guess there should be no problem...
A2. a panotour with node-hotspots?
A3. a panotour with thumbnail_menu_mobile
A4. a panotour with fly-in ad animations?
A5. a panotour with image-popups?
A6. a panotour using variables and filters?
A7. a panotour using logic-block "actions"?

B) Same questions using "goodreader" with an ipad:
B1
B2
...

C) Some more comments and questions?
