Preview Thumbnail for video and still image hotspot

Q&A about the latest versions

Hi,

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I'm using Version 5.0.1 pro Revision 15068/5.5.1 and the Beta version.

Seeking guidance as how to add a preview thumbnail to a still image hotspot and a preview thumbnail to a video clip ()not a panorama)

My panoramas display a preview thumbnail when I hover over them.
Would like to be able to do the same on still image and video clips.

I've managed to attach a blank prieview box that appears when I hover over the image and video hotspots but, so far am unable to insert / add a specific file to display in the thumnail.
When I click on either hotspot, image or video, the relavant file displays, full size across the screen and works perfectly.

Many thanks.

Hi Ink8455,
Download the attached project.
This has a working video popup with preview.
Open and publish the project, then copy the short_tb.mp4 and short_tb_preview.jpg into the media folder inside the output folder.
This is a working project.

Making a new project.
The best way to make your preview image is to add your video to the pinned video viewer mode as this will generate the preview image for you.
Then just remove the pinned video from the viewer. This will save a preview image in the projects folder.

Now switch to point hotspot viewer mode and drag in your video. This will make the connection and save the video in the output folders media sub folder.
Now copy the preview image to the media folder.
In the hotspots Target which would normally be left blank enter the path to the preview image.

This should get you going.
Regards,
Hopki

It worked perfectly.

Hi,
This will work in the same way, just add the ht_image component to your skin and than copy and paste the elements required for the popup from the video popup.

You also need to give the Image Hotspot Template the same mouse enter and leave actions to show and hide the preview as found in the video popup.

The good thing about this is when you add an image to the project it will copy it to the images folder. So for the Target use: images/picture.jpg.
Replace picture.jpg with your images file name.

This way it will use the picture as the thumbnail as well.

Still having a few issues!!!!

When I move the mouse over, a preview thumbnail appears. Unfortunately the image is white with no picture.
I've added the jpg to C:\Desktop\Pano2VR5\Test VR2\output\images/Plan.jpg and also to media.

Under Hotspot properties Target: C:\Desktop\Pano2VR5\Test VR2\output\images/Plan.jpg

On a desktop

Google Chrome 54.0.2840.99

The \ / doesn't appear to make a difference. I was trying both.

Viewing Local

The preview works for both Pano (ht_node) and Video (ht_video_file) Hotspots, just not Image (ht_image).

I'm sure it's something really simple that I've missed or entered incorrectly

Hi Ink8455,
I have attached a project with it all working.
As before you would open and create the output.
Once done copy the "short_tb_preview.jpg to the media folder.

With the image popup there is no need as I use the same image i popup as the thumbnail.
Probably not the best idea if the images are very large but with this project works well.

The images by default are stored in the images folder in the output folder.
So the hotspot target file path points to that. images/cup.jpg

I think the better thing to do would be to make smaller lower resolution images so the previews will popup faster.

Hopki

My mistake, under target: I needed to enter media/Plan.jpg

Project working perfectly, however......

When I export the final project to play as a stand alone file (nw application file) to be burnt to DVD etc, everything works bar the video.
Previews appear. Still images open but the video has a series of circles rotating in a circular direction.
The video does not play.
The cancel "x" appears.
Everything else is working perfectly.

Hi Ink8455,
Odd, make sure the video is still in the media folder, must ask your using a local MP4 file?
Did you use the project I sent, does this work or not on the external storage?

Yes, this was on your project.

Everything worked when output created. Thumbnail previews for images, video and pano.

When exported thumbnail previews, still images and pano work, just not videos?

Hi Ink8455,
Strange, I just copied the output folder to an external HDD and then open the project on my Mac Book which opens ok using Firefox as its a local file.

In your folder "video_preview-2" I have copied the created out put and pasted it in to Pano2VR output folder (nw). Screen shot attached.
Inside the output I've attached a screen shot.
Inside Media, it only has the short_th movie file inside.

The pano works, the cup appears and both have preview thumbnails.
The video is the only part that isn't playing.

What have I missed?
