hi all,

I know this topic has been raised plenty of times before, especially using Goodreader & iBooks.

I've got a large trade exhibition in a couple of weeks, and just wanted to know if there was an easier way of viewing content offline on iOS than the iBooks Author Widget tutorial - all looks quite complicated....:

https://ggnome.com/wiki/IBooks_Author_Widget

It would be great if there was a "drag & drop" desktop widget for creating existing tour content files that will run offline on iOS for exhibitions. The so-called "free" WiFi at trade shows is crap! (so too is Goodreader!).

Can I submit a "feature request" that a stand-alone offline player be incpororated into Pano2VR?

After starting to try and create an example offline tour using the iBooks method, I become stuck because, as I use a PC, I can neither download, open nor use, iBooks Author - this appears to be Apple only....

I've been including the cache manifest when rendering, then adding the modification in the html code as shown here: http://ggnome.com/wiki/Cache_Manifest_File

This has been very simple to set up.

I don't have a PC, but this works well on Mac. As well, for iOS, a web icon can be added, and the cached file can be saved to Home Screen and behave like an app. Don't know how it translates for non-iOS devices, but again, this has been very useful when showing things to others while offline. You may have issues with older devices, but it works well on my v3iPad and modern iPhones.

When creating your web icon, you'll want to add this into the cache manifest, and if multi-nodes, you'll want to make sure you have only one manifest that includes all the elements.

Is this something which has now been implemented ?

I have a client who uses an iPad, and wants an offline experience with hotspots for your at an exhibition without wifi connection.

I have a PC but no iPad to play with and need to create this for him for tomorrow.....

Any ideas ?

Thanks.

HI,
I use Documents app for iOs, works fine for offline tours even in VR mode. All you need is to upload your tour to iTunes, then download to your device.

Hi,

You use an ios app called Documents ?

When you say upload to iTunes, what do you upload ? I'm only ever used to uploading html files to my website and providing my clients with the link to there ?

Many thanks.

Hi JezUK,

I also use the ios app Documents you can find it at https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/documen ... 01807?mt=8 you can load it on both iPhone and iPad.

What Jare means is that you can upload the files using File Sharing within iTunes. When you device is connected to your Mac the Document app appears in the File Sharing section of iTunes. By selecting it you can drag your files onto the right hand window and it will download them to the app on the connected device.

In the image below I've opened iTunes (Version 12.7.0.166) and selected my device. Under File Sharing you can see the Document app, and all the single image, folders or zip files I've transferred to the device.

Hi Tony,

And thanks for all of that.

When you say you can upload the files - what files ?

I am not familiar with the Documents App so I guess it cannot accept just 'any' file.

Do I create a tour just as I normally do, via HTML ?

Or do I need to create a tour in a specific way, say into a PDF, and upload that via iTunes ?

I'm familiar (to a degree) with iTunes (and hated it when I played with it !) - but I am just trying to get my head around what it is I am to create to send via iTunes.

The output folder from your Pano2VR project. That's the one containing the index.html file, the skin.js, the tiles, .js files etc.

Documents App accepts all sorts of files, video, pdf, JPG but if you upload a folder containing a Pano2VR project and then open that folder and open the HTML file it will play it. You can also zip the folder, upload and file share it, then unzip it in Documents.

Yes

No

File Sharing is simple, do it once and you will be able to do it everytime

1000 thanks Tony, now I'm clear :)

I was imagining that I'd need to create a special output file type.

Great to hear it'll work fine on an iPad :)

Once again, thanks for the thorough explanation, I really appreciate it.

Hi Tony,

I transferred my tour on my iPad Air 2 but viewing is not possible. The app "Documents" crashes immediately or after some seconds. I get the error message "Nicht genügend Systemressourcen" - Not enough system resources. Do I have to deinstall many apps?

I have an iPad Air 2 I can test on too, if you can send me a copy of the tour. Have you removed Documents and reinstalled it? Is it a really big tour?

What version iOS are you running and how much available space do you have on the iPad

Here's a blog post that may help if you are running iOS 11 https://www.imyfone.com/ios-11/iphone-a ... pdate-fix/

Let me know how it goes.
