To use your own API key with Pano2VR you need create a key at

https://cloud.google.com/maps-platform/#get-started

And just follow the instructions.

You should restrict the key to the following APIs to avoid abuse. Don't add any Application restrictions as this would break Pano2VR. Also don't reuse the key on your website or anywhere else. After everything is setup you can copy the key to your Pano2VR settings:

I'm creating my first Google-based tour (well, publishing an existing bespoke tour on to Google as well) and I'm setting up the APIU key. Do I have to pay for it? I've got so far in to the API process, but a splash screen has popped up asking to "Enable billing for project"....

Hi Stu,
Google require an account with a valid payment method.
You get $200.00 a month credit, which most folk will be ok with.

Note: this is not the same key you would use for say the Map element.
This is purely for Street View uploads.

I had to delete all realted with google maps on my site ( www.burger.si ) as the calculation was that regarding the traffic (internal use - intranet with maps calls and internet) would be over 4K euros a month and even promoting Google logo.

Eric, you will want to use your own key. Right now, you can use Google Maps in the Tour Map, but Google might change their usage rules at anytime, and we may need to disable it. If you use your own key, you won't run into any problems, then.

@Svendus, What Hopki means is that, this key, that Thomas is showing, should only be used for searching/viewing in the Tour Map and placing Place IDs for Google Street View and to not use this key for the map element in the skin because you can't lock it down to your domain -- because this could cause issues in Pano2VR. Better is to use a second key for the map element and have it locked to your domain.

When you sign up, you get up to 7 keys. And now it's $300 credit.

So untill Google change their mind we leave it open for Street View upload and we use another mapprowider on the webb.
it is rather a sad story with the mobile SV application the Android version crashed some dayes ago and the iOS version got no preview for over a year.

Running to the main page, Google is asking if we want to use the API for: Maps, Roads, or Places.
Should I select them all?

I do not use a Google Maps API for using the Pano2VR software, nor for uploading images to Google Street View. I gather that you need a Google Maps API if you plan to create stand-alone tours that access Google Maps in any way.

It explains that if you want to use the Google map in a self-hosted tour then you still need an API key but needs to be locked to your domain to stop others using it as it is visible in the HTML page.

However, you can add a custom map and use the free Leaflet API with an OpenStreetMap.
