quality question (quicktime)

Hi everyone,
I am noticing when I convert my panos and play them in quicktime that there is a lag in the pan when I change direction with my mouse. ( i equate it to hitting a speedbump if that makes sense.)
Is this an issue of the quality settings that i would use or a function of quicktime when you view a pan? I am probably setting the pan settings too low but I am trying to find a healthy balance of quality vs file size.
Sorry for the general question but I don't have alot of experience with quicktime so i am trying set my expectations with the viewer technology.
