File Size Limits?

Trying to convert a 16 bit tiff, 24,214 wide equirectangular to a MOV file, using tile size of 1501, compression of 73. The input file is about 1.6 gigabytes in size.

PANO2QTVR appears to have stopped, at least it's not using any CPU cycles and has been left to run for over 1/2 hour, has not even started to build the "....." (tile line progress bars?)

I know this is an excessive file size, just trying a test.

Anyone know of size limits?

I'm going to try and convert it to cubic, see where that goes. Same result.

Downloaded 1.5.2, same result. Here's the Console info:

I downsized the file to 20,000 pixels wide and it works as expected, so I'm assuming there is a limit somewhere above 20,000 pixels.

There are several limits, most of them depend on the main memory. I never tried to figure out the exact values because there are to many factors involved.

Memory Limits

So I guess a couple of things would help?

Have only Pano2QTVR running.

Reduce the file to 8 bit and convert to JPEG.

And increase memory beyond 2 gigabytes on Windows XP? If I remember correctly Windows can use some amount of memory for the system above 2 gigs?

Any other ideas?

UPDATE; Have tried a bunch of test, and the limit appears to be in pixel dimensions. I took the original file, converted to 8 bit and saved it as JPG. It's size was then less than 200 megabytes. But it still would not work. Next cut the pixel size down to 24,000, 23,000, 22,000, 21,000, and 20,500. None of these worked.

So somewhere above 20,000 pixels it fails.

Next test a 20,000 pixel image in 16bit.

One more note

After even more testing I've found what appears to be the next limit, cube face size. If I try and convert my now downsized equirectangular image (20,000 by 10,000 pixels) to cube faces it fails if I let Pano2QTVR determine the cube face size.

It will appear to be working, produces 4 of the 6 faces and then I guess runs out of memory. After testing, various cube face sizes for output, it appears that somewhere around 5,000 pixels or above is just too much.

A test with 4,999 just worked, but a test with a 5,200 target failed.
