Hi Again,

I have been having trouble getting my hotspots working in iBooks on the iPad 3 and iPad Mini. I have created 23 area hotspots over all 30 columns of my project and they work fine (default hotspot text box appears) on the web browser preview, and they also work great in iBooks on my desktop computer. When I touch the areas of the screen where the hotspots should be on the iPad, no text pops up.

In addition to using the default hotspot text box options, I have attempted to use a hotspot proxy in the skin to have the text appear above the model in my project rather than next to the hotspot, but the same issue has occurred there as well.

In the past, using version 2.0, I was able to implement hotspots in iBooks on an iPad with no problem, and indeed, I dropped an old widget I created into iBooks and the hotspots still work on the iPad, web browser and in iBooks on the desktop.

For the current project, I am using Object2VR version 3.0, and would like to continue using it, so that I can take advantage of the multi-resolution options.

Here is a link to some screenshots of my project:

It is possible I have overlooked something, but I thought it would be best to check here.

Thanks for your help,

Will

Hi Will,
It seems Poly hotspots don't work in iBooks!!!
I have bug track this, please see Issue #1199
However I just tested with Area Hotspots and a text box in the skin using hotspot proxy ID *.
This seems to work ok so you can use version 3.x just not ploys :-(

Hopki

Thanks Hopki, but I am still having a problem getting my hotspots working. I am using area hotspots with a hotspot proxy and text box, and it’s still not working on the iPad version of iBooks. I must be missing something obvious, I think.

Here are some other screenshots from my project:

This is how I set up area hotspots with a proxy in version 2.0, so maybe something has changed between versions?

Thank you again for your time and help,

Will

Hi Will,
Add a text box on its own and deselect visible.
Give the text box the hotspot proxy ID of *
Then enter in the text field $hs and give it the mouse enter and exit action to show and hide.
Thats what I did in my test which works on my iPad 3 and iPad Air.

Hopki

Hi Hopki,

Sorry to bother you again, but I have followed your instructions and still haven't gotten my hotspots to function on either of our iPads.

If you get a chance, it might be best to just take a look at my project file?:

Hi Will,
Well, been testing with OS X Mavericks and iBooks author then previewing on an iPad Air. Area hotspots show the text box when linked using Hotspot Proxy ID.
Just tested using OS X 10.10.1 and using the same set up now not working????
So obviously a problem with either the new OS X or iBook Author on it.

Just to check I used point hotspots and this seemed to work.
I placed point hotspots over your pins then in the skin added a hotspot template with a rectangle with its radius set to 999 to make it round. The Hotspot Template had the actions, mouse enter show text 1 and mouse leave hide text 1. The text box had $hs to display the Point Hotspot Title.

I will look into this in more detail later and bug track to the developers but at least there is a workaround.

Hey Hopki,

Thank you for figuring out the work around. It seems like it could work, but when I open the widget in iBooks on an iPad I am getting:

"x-ibooks-th://manual.
8D6B5CBE-4541-448E-8EE7-
0CC397031706
Error XML:Error: TimeoutError: DOM
Exception 23"

I will keep doing some tests to see if I can get something that will work. We may still have a machine with an older version of OS X I can use.

Thanks,

Will
