Proxy Definition is found here: http://gardengnomesoftware.com/wiki/Hotspot_proxy
A hotspot proxy is used to make a link between hotspots and skin elements and their actions.

the ID part of your question mean "Identification" where it is useful to provide a unique NAME for your HOTSPOT. Example: Hotspot id = HS or HSboat HSdoor hswindow HS means Hotspot.. followed by a description name

What does the ' * ' do? The star or * is a generic symbol that means to the computer "All variations of". So I searched on *GNOME* the wild card * means "ALL characters" search would return results with gardengnome or gardengnomesoftware .
