"cardboard.ggt" & Samsung Gear VR viewing

Would I be right in thinking the "cardboard.ggt" file works with Samsung Gear VR, or is the output specific for Google Cardboard? Without a VR / Samsung handset, I cannot yet test. Do I assume therefore that this example, published with v.5 using the "cardboard.ggt" template will work fine with the VR? If you have one, can you test please....?

Hi Dave,

me too - pre-order S7 in UK for 3 Mar delivery with free Gear VR......

You going for the S7, or Edge? As I've read Samsung boss saying edge not as good for VR as get light bleed from bevelled edge....

From what I understand there is software that can convert the Equire and then the Samsung Gear VR can use it.
However what will be better is if Pano2VR outputs the vertical strip in the correct order. This is on the wish list for more VR capabilities.

hi Martin,

any idea of timescale for wishlist? At the moment I can show clients my work via crappy Cardboard - all a bit of fun, but not "serious" stuff....Ramping up to next level with Gear VR will be more professional for me from a business point of view, especially when on an exhibition stand. Cardboard looks so basic....!!

ARRGGGG wife and I ordered 2 gold colored s7 Edges
Rather wish we had this discussion 2 days ago.

Regarding the cube face order - Pano2vr does have ability to cube face in different sequence order. Right now I cube to sides 0,1,2,3,4,5.

Did you figure you how to get the smart phone /w Gear VR) to use the Samsung Web Browser / With phone's Wi-Fi link to local router and the internet ?

Another issue I have is we will need to charge G 7s up to 100%. I do not know how long you can use the Gear VR headset before recharging the phone.

Right now I am trying to figure out how to keep power on the phone while using the Gear VR head set.

We can SKYPE if you want some time. Then after conversation... I'll post here in the forum 1 long Lessons Learned list of findings.

OK... now I am searching for a method to browse the internet to view our Pano2vr panorama work. OPPS have to have the G7s and Gear VR head mounted display ... As Martin mentioned I should wait.

Samsung VR Web Browser. Article reports Web Browser possible release 1st Quarter 2016. OK.. guess its available in the 'Gear VR Store' ?
Partial Quote from Article:
Perhaps more importantly, the browser is capable of handling a number of VR and 360-degree video formats. The most prevalent of those is YouTube, and those videos stream to the browser well whether in 2D or 360. It supports other formats, like HTML5 for VR video, and can easily format side-by-side videos for displaying in a movie theater format.

and...
If you already have a Gear VR and want to try out the browser while in a pre-release version, it’s available for download on the Gear VR Store page. The experience is improved if you already use the Samsung browser, as it will import bookmarks and account information from non-VR use.

Now we are using a Samsung Galaxy S7 Curve using Google Android 6.01 Patch February 1, 2016.

Observations:
Uses default "Internet" browser 4,0.01-89 as default

on board browsers:
Google Chrome browser 48.0.2564.95
Firefox 44.0.2

Copied my Elissa created using Pano2vr 5.0 final /output contents to the smartphone's Storage Internal storage and to SD Card memory.

Used "Internet" browser, Chrome and Firefox tried to look back to local on board Memory + Card

Bad:
Failed to start projects Elissa.html using onboard browsers

Good:
Copied project to Flash Thumb drive Drive. Plugged in Flash thumb drive using the micro USB dongle to USB 2 cable and then used Android MY FILES app to browse back to the Thumb drive and tap on Elissa.html AND our 3 node project worked properly. Installed Firefox displayed the project properly.

With Samsung Galaxy s7 smart phone with Android 6.01 and external Flash Thumb drive continues to play the Pano2vr 5.0 final project properly

Hi Dave,

Sounds promising, even if running off an external thumb drive. So no joy yet running from on-board SD slot? Martin - you had chance to "play" or are you still pre-occupied with your drone!?!?!!

My S7 is currently in transit with Parcelforce...!!!

i Stu,
Mine turned up today but sadly still in its box.
I need time to play which is in limited supply at the moment.

That said, I remember you can download a file manager, transfer the output folder to the card then navigate to the HTML page and open.
I say from what I can remember as Im sure this is how I did it on a Nexus 7 tablet a while ago.

Hopki

Testing http://360texas.com/gallery/elissa/elissa.html

I found I can only use Firefox with Flash thumb drive by using MY FILES app to browse to file:///storage/080F-3f17 (my thumbdrive)... elissa.html works fine.

If I unplug the Flash thumb drive:

Using Android "blue icon INTERNET Internet version 4.0.01-89" DEFAULT BROWSER.
MY FILES browse to the project .html on either on internal Ram or to the 64gb micro SD card... it forces the DEFAULT browser to open... and we get to see a white screen reporting that:

"this content requires HTML5/CSS3, WebGL or Adobe Flash Player version 10 or higher"

Which means to me that this browser called INTERNET is not HTML5 compliant when played locally on smart phone. OR I have not yet figured out how to set an html5 option
However using INTERNET at our website... this browser does open and properly play elissa.html

Pre installed Google CHROME 48.0.2564.95 SET AS DEFAULT browser
Attempt to change to default browser REPORTS This app is set to open by default for some actions. App links: Select whether to open this app instead of our browser app when you go to supported web addresses. the Go to supported URLs and supported web addresses is grayed out so I can't immediately view supported urls or web addresses. Trying to browse back to local storage items like interneal ram or 64gb micro .

Used MY FILES app to browse to local storage/elissa.html
returned with white screen text reading

"this content requires HTML5/CSS3, WebGL or Adobe Flash Player version 10 or higher"

Firefox version 44.0.2 SET AS DEFAULT browser
Tried MY FILES to browse to elissa.html on both internal ram and external 64gb card
Results Same as Chrome

Its the phone... even though I set as default browser both Chrome and Firefox... both browser would not view elissa.html locally and reported that

"this content requires HTML5/CSS3, WebGL or Adobe Flash Player version 10 or higher"

OK.. guess I will go have a cup of coffee and rethink this issue of trying to play elissa.html locally on internal and 64gb micro storage card.

Know that the Samsung s7 will MY FILES browse to an attached thumb drive and play properly.
