That sounds like a good idea. Until Thomas returns you might try visiting the World Wide Panorama website hosted by the University of California at Berkeley. An equirectangle image dimensions are like 1000 pixels high x 2000 pixels wide. It is the image output dimensions that you specified in the stitching software. High CPU usage should not be an issue. While looking at the panorama rotate, what other background task are you doing that would demand CPU usage that is being slowed down? Usually, when a person is looking at a rotating panorama.. they are not concurrently processing another task in the background....
