Is there somebody here who can advise me on how to communicate between the skin and the JavaScripts as described above? Where or how should I link the string "countdown_reached" to the variable in my skin?

I think you’ll have to search for a check box in the context of “offload video on hide” in the skin editor. I will look into it when I am at my Mac again, but for now may be this helps.
